Summer Reading Program 2024

Instructions

All ages are eligible to participate in Summer Reading Club. Adults, children, tweens and teens may read books, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels, comic books, e-books, board books, etc. Children too young to read may count time for books read to them by someone else.

Children will keep track of time read and activities completed using the provided reading log. A new reading log will become available each week, for a total of 9 reading logs in all. Completed reading logs may be turned in at any time after the date written on the log with name written on the reading log.

Adults, we have a few opportunities for you this summer:
 - Play tic-tac-toe: every win earns an entry for the grand prize drawing.
 - Participate in the "2024 Family Unplugged Challenge." Enrollment will begin June 1, 2024.

Schedule

Guest performance Tuesdays
- 2:30 pm: Come enjoy a variety of guests to entertain the whole family!

Wednesdays
- 9:30 am: Lap sit Story time- This Story time is created for new born-2 years. Includes stories, songs, puppets and a chance to make friends!

- 10:30 am: Preschool Story time and crafts Story time, songs and movement activities followed by crafts or activity. (If you plan on bringing a large group to story-time please contact the library in advance to prepare enough crafts)

Thursdays
- 9:30 am: Lap-sit Story time (0-2years)

- 10:30am: Preschool Story time and crafts

- 2:30 pm: Movie Day at the Library. Come and watch a movie at the library with family and friends and enjoy delicious popcorn!

Performance Schedule

All Performances begin at 2:30 p.m.
June 4 - Great Plains Nature Center
Learn about amazing Kansas mammals and see one up close with a Great Plains Nature Center naturalist.

June 11 - Daniel Baird (Handpan Dan)
Do you know what a handpan drum is (looks like a UFO but sounds like a harp)? Come learn from this very fun and interactive program where you will be able to try your hand at playing one yourself!

June 18 - The Wichita Symphony
Come see how music can take you on an adventure!

June 25 - Aaron Fowler
Aaron Fowler is an educator, musician and author. He will be singing, playing instruments, and sharing stories!

July 2 - Didgeridoo Downunder
Join us on an epic adventure to the Land Down Under, where we'll hear otherworldly sounds from the didgeridoo.
A fusion of Australian music, culture, comedy, storytelling and audience movement / participation.

July 9 - Marty the Magician
Be prepared for the whole family to have fun watching this performer!

July 16 - Brian Wendling
Juggling! Comedy! Energy! Come join the fun!

July 23 - Water Wars
It's back! Bring your bathing suits, water guns and sense of adventure to have fun with the Sedgwick County Fire Department!
